She said

Where were you? Where were you when I needed you the most? Where were you when I stood alone, a face in the passing world? Were you with someone else? When I was in the water, clinging on the driftwood, praying for my life, where were you? When I stood above the roof, the wind whistling into my ear, where were you? When I was faced against the wall, without a clue how to cross, where were you?

Why were you everywhere else but next to me?

He said

I was always with you. When you stood in the crowd, I was right behind you, in case you felt dizzy from the spinning faces. When you were drowning, I was the driftwood, unsteady but not about to give up on you. When you were contemplating your jump, I was in the wind carrying my kiss and my consolation to you. When you were faced against the wall, I was on the other side, building a ladder to come save you, or join you on your side at the very least.

So you see my love, I was always with you.
